The
song that I chose to analyse was "It Ends Tonight" by The
All-American Rejects. At first listen, one would notice the sad, dark
underlying tone of the song, which translates to giving up and losing hope. The
singer states, "When darkness turns to light, it ends tonight, it ends
tonight, just a little insight, will make things right" (chorus). Tonight
is assumed that it is dark, however, he is talking about the situation that he
is facing - When the 'dark' solution turns to 'light', it'll 'end tonight'. One
can also infer that the song is about a bad relationship, as the singer states
various statements to his presumed ex-girlfriend such as "A falling star,
at least I fall alone, I can't explain what you can explain" (V4 L1), he's
expressing how he would rather be alone, than with someone which he can't even
connect with. Listening to the song
more and more, I began to connect more with to the lyrics. Although the song is
talking about the break up of a bad relationship, the song can be directed to
many subjects. When the end of school nears every year, many students feel the
weight of school heavy on their backs, and it can be overwhelming. The
personification of when the "walls start breathing" (V2 L1) in the
song connected to me because of how it is a metaphor for suffocation and
overwhelming-ness. I experience a workload like I never felt every year around
this time, so "when the walls start breathing, and my mind's
unweaving" (V2 L1), it symbolizes how I begin to suffocate from all the
work, and my mind begins to not work as well as it does due to stress.
Furthermore, when "a weight is lifted" (V2 L3) is mentioned in the
song. In the song, it is a metaphor for leaving the relationship, and how he
would rather be alone "Now I'm on my own side, It's better than being on
your side" (V8 L1). However, to relate it to me, it is a metaphor of when
all the stress a student like I experience when school officially ends. In
conclusion, the song relates to my experiences in school and how overwhelming
it can be.

A main component of The Great Gatsby is Adultery. Tom and Daisy are in a committed relationship with each other, yet, Tom is in another relationship with Myrtle, and Daisy is in one with Gatsby. however, Tom does not want to leave his wife, he just wants Myrtle to stay his "Dirty Little Secret". This holds true with Daisy and Gatsby, as Daisy does not want to leave Tom. Furthermore, when Tom got into a fight with Myrtle about Daisy, Tom did not want Myrtle to talk about his wife Daisy, which shows Tom wants Myrtle to not "tell anyone, or [she'll] be another regret"
During the Roaring Twenties, parties were held from left to right. Jay Gatsby did the same. He was known for his big, lavish parties, where many people, both invited or uninvited, attended. This song says to 'show off to all your friends' & Gatsby does so through his parties. It also mentions about 'trophy boys' which are his extravagant items in his home. However, the real reason for his parties, was for Daisy to come to one and be impressed with Gatsby.
Many rumours surround Gatsby's true identity - did he actually graduate from Harvard? Did he actually participate in the war? Nick tells us in one of the chapters of the truth of Gatsby's history - not the rumours, nor Gatsby's take on it, but the truth. Many people wonder about the history of Gatsby, even to the extent of a reporter coming to his mansion to get an interview on him. This song represents the rumours surrounding Gatsby by saying "I know they've all been talking 'bout me". Gatsby also tries to live in his past, because Daisy loved him in his past, so he's trying to rekindle their love by doing that, however, Nick warns him he cannot live in the past. Gatsby refutes this, and the song parallel's this when "Soon you'll see me as how I used to be".

Journal Entry #8
Entering the battlefied, I.. I feel trapped, but there is no way that Macduff, or anyone, is a threat to me, as the witches clearly stated that I cannot be killed by anyone born of a woman. I doubt they'd be lying.. almost all of their predictions came true! This one must as well! A young siward came forward, asking for my name.. long story short, I killed him in a battle.. he must be born of a woman. Damn, I must leave at once..
I.. I finally see him. Macduff. God, saying that name makes my skin crawl. Hah! We were fighting, and Macduff thought that he could kill me! I laughed in his face. My life is charmed, and would not be taken away by one who's of woman born.
-after fight-
.. Hello there.
This is Macduff.
I would just like to say.. Macbeth is finally slain, as I am not of woman born.
Untimely ripped from my ma's womb, you might say.
Alas, Macbeth is finally gone from this world, and my wife and kids can rest in peace, along with the other lives Macbeth has taken.

Journal Entry #7
Here at Dusinane, I insisted on having banners hung outside of the castle! I mean, Dusinane is so fortified, all my former forces will probably die of hunger or sickness before they reach me! hah! This will be a game of patience..
I.. I just heard a woman cry. I just asked Seyton, and he informed me that my wife..
she is dead.
.. she should have died hereafter.
Huh? A messenger just came running in, informing that that when he looked out at Birnam, and saw the woods beginning to move. Why.. this is beginning to be like the third prophecy.
Why, I'm already weary of the sun, but I must leave my fortress and face the army. Why, if I am to go down, I would not go down without a fight!

Damn Macduff.. why must he still be living?! I must.. I must turn living, into lived. The only people that could help me are the three sisters..
Ah! I finally found them! They were in a cave, like they were hiding or something! Lennox, my man, stood outside the cave. As I approached them, I began to voice myself, demanding them to answer my questions! Even if the universe were to be destroyed at this instance, my questions are first priority! The witches complied (Duh, of course, it's me, Macbeth, I get what I want.) This time however, the witches told me prophecies through apparitions.. they conjured up the first apparition.. more specifically, an armed head. I still remember the exact words it said to me. - "MACBETH! MACBETH! MACBETH! beware Macduff;/Beware the thane of Fife. Dismiss me: enough." (IV, i, 77-78) Afterwards, the witches conjured up another apparition, this time.. a bloody child.. - "Be bloody, bold, and resolute; laugh to scorn/The power of man, for none of woman born/ Shall harm Macbeth." (IV, i, 85-87) There, I got confused. How could Macduff harm me then? Is he not born from a woman? Nonetheless, the third apparition appeared. Another child, crowned with a tree in his hand. I cannot remember what this child said, but only the general jist of it.. something about be only being defeated when the trees of Birnam wood moves towards my castle.
1. Beware Macduff, beware thane of Fife
2. None born of a woman shall harm Macbeth
3. Macbeth will be defeated when the trees of Birnam woods move towards his castle
Why, the first prophecy is already true! I must beware Macduff.. Just like last time.. this means the others must be true as well!
However.. I think I might've upset the witches, as I kept bugging them about Banquo's children. They decided to summon eight apparitions.. all of which resembles Banquo in some sort of form. That was the last straw. I blew up and cursed the witches, which they seemed not to care at my rage, only to dance their way out (they weren't very good BTW) and disappeared.
I called Lennox into the cave, asking if he saw the three sisters dancing (terribly) out. He saw nothing.. sigh. He then told me that Macduff has fled to England. With that, my fury enraged. In that moment, I swore that I would kill Macduff's family!

Journal Entry #5
Ahh, I just met with my lovely wife. You know, without her, I probably wouldn’t have succeeded with this plan already, and became king... ahh, the guests' have arrived! We must welcome them immediately!
-1 hour later-
I.. I just got notice from the murderers.. Fleance, Banquo's son, managed to escape.. bloody hell. At least Banquo's not here anymore.. that is best.
-After the dinner-
OMG.. that was the most horrific dinner ever.. I don't know if I was envisioning things, or what.. As soon as I got back to the dinner table, and mentioned that Banquo's sadly not here at our feast, he appeared. He as in.. BANQUO. I.. I was sure that he was dead. I was sure of it! However, he was there, almost like he was mocking me. Frantically, I reacted like any man would've - freaking out and yelling. My wife tried to calm me down, but who could've calmed down when seeing a dead man rise from the grave! It's unlikely how I was the only who saw of him though! Luckily.. Banquo's ghost disappeared.. for about like, 10 seconds. As soon as I apologized to my guests', I made a toast for the absent Banquo. There, he rose again! And I freaked out. Again. My wife immediately asks the guests' to leave. IDK why, she seems to panic fairly easily...
UGH! THIS IS BECAUSE BANQUO AND MACDUFF BOTH SUSPECTED ME. I KNOW THEY DID. WHY MUST BANQUO STILL BE HERE, EVEN WHEN HE'S DEAD? I KNOW. HE WANTS TO JOIN WITH MACDUFF TO GET RID OF ME. THAT'S IT. I MUST GET RID OF MACDUFF, AND THEREFORE, I WILL BE FREE.
ALL. HAIL. MACBETH.

Journal Entry #4
Aha! I just invited my fellow friends (including Banquo) to a banquet this evening! With Banquo travelling in the afternoon before the dinner, with fellow son Fleance, I'm sure they will be the honorable guest for tonight.. hehe.
I talked to two guys that I hired to get rid of 'certain people'.. as I'm terrified by the third prophecy that the witches stated before might come true.. no one will get between me and the throne, not even a child!
"KILL THOSE TWO, NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES, DO IT."
"Yes."
"KILL THEM ON THE RIDE BACK. DO YOU HEAR ME? DON'T LET THEM GET TOO CLOSE TO THE PALACE WHEN YOU DO SO AS WELL."
Now, those two morons have already left..
My heart beats furiously waiting for their return..
